7th grader Arav Hak raises Rs. 9 lakh for cancer patients in Mumbai

Arav Hak is a 7th grader at American School of Bombay. Like any other child of his age, he goes to school, does plenty of homework and has a hectic life. In addition to his regular life, he is doing something extraordinary. He is raising funds for children suffering from cancer and has by far raised over Rs. 9 lakh by his efforts.

The beginning of Arav Hak journey

Arav along with his family moved to India from the USA in 2015. On Diwali last year, his mother took him to visit a cancer hospital for children. This incident opened his eyes and changed his perspective towards life. His visits to the hospital became more frequent and got him his life’s purpose.

His mother has been working with the Nargis Dutt Cancer Foundation and all the money he is collecting will go towards the same. The foundation provides funds and all the required assistance to cancer patients from underprivileged sections of the society.

Arav’s contribution towards this effort

From around six months, Arav has been taking out time from his schedule. This even means finishing his homework in the bus on his way back home from school. After he reaches home, he goes out to meet people and share his beautiful intention with them. He started by approaching family friends and his mother’s contacts and soon was able to spread a word to numerous other people.

Arav’s inspiration

Arav’s only aim is not to raise funds but he derives inspiration the little fighters- the children whom he meets on his way. Recently, Arav along with his mother organized a movie screening for around 100 children.

His future plans

His next project is to run in the Standard Charted Mumbai Marathon (in the Dream Run category) to raise more awareness about this cause.

He believes that instead of spending blindly on our luxuries, we should spend some amount on helping somebody else who is in need of that money and whose family cannot afford the treatment.
