According to 2011 Census, the sex ratio in Haryana is 879, which is much below the national average of 940. According to a report , 12 districts of Haryana are among the 100 worst selected places under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme.
As a part of its efforts to save girl child campaign , Haryana Govt has invited over 2 lakh families of infant girls for Republic day celebrations and they will be seated in the front row for the celebrations. Invitations are already sent on the name of girl child.
The most inspiring and surprising initiative comes now- village’s most educated girl will hoist the flag for this Republic day at all villages in the state and she will be on a committee appointed to look after the schools in that village.
An official of the Education Department told Indian Express that the aim was to give the girls a place of pride in the family. “We wanted to make the parents feel that it was because of their daughters that they were receiving respect. We want the perception about the girl child to change.”
Haryana government has showed a way to many other states in fact all the states. Such a enthusiasm is required to fight the skewed gender ratio and its still declining day by day. Hope more such initiatives come up.
